3. Sensory Acuity You need to be aware that what you are doing is working or not. We receive information via our senses, (visual, auditory, kinaesthetic, olfactory and gustatory) which allows us to respond appropriately to the environment. We need to have a sensory awareness about any responses that occur and calibrate those responses to ensure that we know what those particular responses mean. Often we get locked into overcoming an obstacle, trying to force our way through, when we could have taken a look at the situation and created a better way of achieving it. We need to be aware if we are reaching others in our communication at their level. We need to be aware of any changes in the other persons physiology to recognize when those changes are occurring. 4. Sensory Acuity Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson were on the trail of a mystery. It was getting late and they were in the middle of the moors. Setting up their tent, Holmes and Watson settled down for the night. Halfway through the night, Watson was shaken awake by Holmes. “Watson, look up and tell me what you see?” said Holmes. “Why, I see millions of stars” said Watson. “And what do you deduce from that?” said Holmes. “Well, just looking at the sheer number of stars in the universe, I would imagine that there must be life out there somewhere”. “And what else do you deduce?” asked Holmes. “Why, it is so awe inspiring and majestic, you can see God’s hand at work.” replied Watson, “why Holmes, what do you deduce?” “Watson you fool, the tents missing!” |
